Established in 1828 The Windmill is one Brighton’s classic back street boozers. South facing sun trap, open fire, toad table, function room, local Sussex beers and food by the fantastic Alberta’s. Upstairs is a small room for Fringe shows, running through the weekend.


The Venue

The Windmill is the new sister venue of Laughing Horse's original Fringe venue The Qudrant, and is centrally located near to the Quadrant, Temple and the shops on Western Road. Upper North Street is the road that runs behind the shops. The Bar and room are newly refurbished.

The Fringe performance space is the upstairs, which is separate from the main bar downstairs. There is also an outdoor seating to the front of the venue, with food available all day.


The Performance Space: Upstairs 

  • Stage: 3m x 1.5m flat on floor.
  • Backstage: There is no backstage area in this room. but you can use the room exit near the stage.
  • Capacity: 35
  • Lighting: Basic Stage lighting to Flood the stage, with colour changing possible.
  • Blackout: Not Possible 
  • PA System: In House PA system. Mixer at Sound Position. 3 Cable Mics, Mic Stands and small audio jack to plug in MP3 Player provided.
  • AV: There is no Projector or Screen at this venue.
  • Storage: There is a very small area for equipment at the venue for props and equipment, shared with other groups.
  • Green Room/Performers Area: No  
  • Bar: There is no bar in the room, the nearest bar is downstairs in the main bar
  • Accessibility: This performance space is not wheelchair accessible as it is up a full flight of stairs. The stairs are narrow.
